Quality Assurance (QA) Manager Online Services Applications

Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) has an immediate opening as a result of a promotion for a seasoned Quality Assurance (QA) Manager for their flagship web and desktop products that are recognized globally for their authority in chemistry information. CAS is headquartered on a beautiful campus environment, which is walking distance to The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an organization that is well established and has been driving results for over 100 years! The ideal candidate will lead and manage a highly technical and experienced team of over 20 direct reports located at same location, including full-time employees and contactors. This team is responsible for testing client server and web based applications in mainly a manual testing environment and moving more towards automated testing. As a result, experience managing manual and automated testing (Mercury tool sets/HP) within large software projects is preferred.

In addition, to the above responsibilities the ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, chemistry or related sciences. Overall the candidate should have 7 to 10 years of IT-related experience, including 5 to 7 years of successful experience in a quality assurance environment with management or leadership experience. Proven experience in process improvement, ability to get results through managing a team effectively and efficiently, and good presentation skills are highly desirable for the success of this position. Knowledge in chemistry and of CAS products and databases is highly desirable.

Position Summary
The Software Quality Assurance Analyst will work within the A&F IT and business community to ensure systems delivered meet specified quality standards. The Software Quality Assurance Analyst will be an A&F expert on testing processes and tools and will be responsible for creation and validation of test plans and test cases. A solid business and functional understanding of the system(s) under test is required, as is a general background in software quality assurance methodologies, software testing best practices, and automated testing tools.

Qualifications
Personal attributes: confident, self-starter, strong work ethic, highly motivated, sense of humor, a winning ‘can-do’ attitude, team-oriented.
Bachelor’s degree in MIS/CIS, Computer Science, or related field (required)
4+ years experience in MIS/IT
Experience with testing methodologies and QA best practices

Software QA certifications a plus (CSQA, etc)
Good interpersonal skills with a strong team orientation.
Experience in IT systems development lifecycles, including iterative methodologies such as the Unified Process.
Leadership skills including the ability to mentor and lead groups of testers.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Detail oriented with excellent analytical skills.
Ability to translate business needs into requirements.

Responsibilities
Assess testing practices in different software groups with regard to QA best practices and A&F process standards.
Execute test planning and test execution activities for work efforts. Serve as QA mentor to other IT associates that have responsibility for testing.
Gather and present test execution status and defect summary reports.

Quality Assurance Analyst - Senior Position

This is a senior-level Quality Assurance Analyst (QAA) position where experience, skills and knowledge include a thorough understanding of practices, policies and procedures and are applied to complete tasks. Responsible for following procedures to ensure that all information systems products and services meet organization standards and end-user requirements. Executes and documents the testing of software/applications to ensure proper operation and freedom from defects for projects with large and diverse scope. Works independently and may provide guidance on complex issues to others. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Creates more complex automation scripts. Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in an information technology, or related discipline, which could include Computer Science, Information Systems (IS) or Management Information Systems (MIS). In lieu of a degree, at least 4 years in a professional IT-related and/or business-related role.

Working Experience Requirements:
-Minimum of 5-7 years experience in software quality assurance and testing of multiple applications with significant size, scope and complexity (i.e. Sales, Servicing, Finance, Billing Applications, etc.) is required

The TCoE (Testing Center of Excellence) for the PAAD (Policy Admin Application Development) organization is looking for an additional leader.

Core responsibilities
- Apply and use advanced testing methodologies (i.e. path-based analysis, flow charting)
- Lead testing teams to meet all established due dates and deadlines
- Communicate inter/intra departmentally
- Collect data from various sources for metric collection and reporting.
Requirements will include;
- A minimum of 6 years of software testing
- A strong technical aptitude
- The ability to read, interpret and question complex technical information
- The ability to guide software testers through technical information.
Preferred skills include;
- Knowledge of industry standards relating to software testing
- Knowledge of auto insurance (i.e. underwriting, policy coverages and claims)
- Knowledge of XML, OO programming, embedded systems and client-server environments.

This candidate will create scripts that when executed will confirm the throughput and scalability of the application/system.
